How to Protect Yourself

Health authorities advise seniors and people who have underlying chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes to stay at home, avoid crowds, and practice social distancing since they may be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.

Know How It Spreads

The Coronavirus spreads through:

  • Person-to-person
  • Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes

How to Protect Yourself

  • Clean your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
  • Use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Do not touch your eyes, nose, and mouth without washing your hands
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Put distance between yourself and other people
  • Limit visitors to your home and avoid attending public events,
  • Please inform your health coordinator, aides, and your nurse immediately if you develop fever, cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing!
  • Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow
  • If you are sick, always wear a facemask when you are around other people and before you enter a healthcare provider’s office.
  • Sanitize your home with common EPA-registered household disinfectants
  • Please ensure that you have an adequate amount of nonperishable/canned food, medications, water, and household necessities for at least 14 days
